I have been cross country skiing before but actually being taught slowly made such a difference. Oh, you’re meant to use your balance? Oh, you sliiiiiiiiiide, not lift (on the flat)? All great revelations.
So, we spent the first bit leaning how to cross country ski on a flat field and then it was time to go into the forest. We went along a narrow road with premade cross country tracks which makes life a whole lot easier… fewer trees to connect with, fewer icy patches to acquaint oneself with all in all less drama. Maybe that’s why I screamed like a banshee down the ONE hillock we skied down… there was a lack of drama and we needed a bit added to the experience.
